'The Future of Banking' DSF seminar

At the end of December the Duisenberg School of Finance (DSF) in Amsterdam organised a seminar on the recently published book ‘The Future of Banking’. Double Effect was represented by Martin Koudstaal, consultant and recently returned from a pre-PhD study at the Duisenberg School of Finance, and Pablo van den Bosch, partner at Double Effect.

The seminar focused on the hazardous relationship between sovereign risk and bank risk, a very current topic. Various solutions were discussed by speakers such as Arnoud Boot, Financial Markets professor at the University of Amsterdam, and Dirk Schoenmaker, Dean of the Duisenberg School of Finance. Important topics included ‘ring fencing’ of certain bank parts and internationalisation of the bank regulation.

Would you like to know more about the seminar? Please view the summary of the seminar. In case you have any queries, you can contact Martin Koudstaal.

Double effect summary: Basel 3 impact on Dutch banks

The Basel 3 regulations remain a topic that attracts a lot of attention. The potential impact on economic growth, profitability and strategic direction of banks are widely discussed. However, for banks not only the strategy is important, but its implementation as well.

In our view, a bank should manage three dynamic forces to implement Basel III regulation:

1. Strategy: how do Basel 3 requirements affect the strategy and risk appetite of the bank?

2. Regulation: do other regulatory developments related to risk, capital and liquidity management affect the envisioned implementation approach?

3. Approval: how will the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) monitor and approve the implementation?

Double Effect has developed a brief summary  of Basel 3 impact on Dutch banks, see also our brochure
